Welcome everyone to a brand new edition of The City Ground Report, as we get ready for what promises to be another exciting season at Nottingham Forest.

Season 34 gets underway with plenty of optimism around the club, although there is still a lingering sense of disappointment from the way last season ended.

Forest came agonisingly close to promotion from the Championship, reaching the Play Off Final against Burnley with the chance to secure a place in the Premiership. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. Despite giving everything on the day, Forest suffered a 3-1 defeat, bringing the promotion dream to an end. Burnley went on to celebrate promotion to the Premiership, while Forest were left to contemplate what might have been.

However, there is no sign of heads dropping at The City Ground.

If anything, the disappointment of last season has created an even greater determination within the squad. The players are back, motivated and ready to put things right. There is a real feeling that the foundations have been laid, and that this could be the season when Nottingham Forest finally takes that next step.

Hincapie joins the Canaries

Nottingham Forest have completed one of the biggest deals of the Championship window so far, with Hincapie departing the City Ground for Norwich City in a deal that sees Jayden Meghoma and Bobby Clark move in the opposite direction, with Forest also contributing £70,000,000 to complete the transfer.

Hincapie originally joined Forest in the third round of the last auction, commanding a huge £207,000,000 winning bid. Despite enjoying a terrific season and proving his quality, the decision was ultimately made that this deal represented an opportunity to strengthen the squad in multiple areas.

Is The End Near For Darwin?

Nottingham Forest have made the decision to list Darwin Nunez, and it hasn’t taken long for interest to arrive. Four clubs have made enquiries, although one has now withdrawn from the race, leaving three clubs still chasing the striker.

Forest are believed to be willing to listen to offers around £135,000,000, although the message from the club is clear, first come, first served. The current leading bid sits at £120,000,000, with plenty of time for that figure to rise.

Nunez arrived initially as Forest’s third choice striker, but his importance grew significantly as the season progressed. He played a crucial role in the club’s push for the playoffs and ultimately finished the campaign as Forest’s top scorer, finding the net 18 times.

Known throughout his career for his fiery personality, Nunez surprisingly became something of a calming influence under Riley’s management, developing into a firm fan favourite along the way.

That’s what makes the possibility of his departure such a difficult one. Losing a player who became so important to the supporters will undoubtedly be a blow.

Goodbye Darwin: A Fan Favourite Departs

Darwin Nunez has officially left Nottingham Forest, completing a £135,000,000 move to Championship rivals Sunderland.

While the fee represents an incredible return for the club, there’s no hiding the disappointment around the City Ground. Nunez had become a genuine fan favourite, and many supporters are upset to see a player who played such a huge role last season walk through the exit door.

Signed initially as Forest’s third choice striker, Nunez went on to become one of the most important players in Riley’s squad. When other forwards struggled for consistency, Darwin stepped up when it mattered most, finishing the season with 18 goals and firing Forest towards the playoffs.

Whatever happens next, Forest will forever be grateful for that contribution.
